ATTENTION!

The whole curriculum is in Polish. After admission the non-Polish speakers study the language for one year at the University Language Cenre, http://www.sjpdc.uni.lodz.pl/en/studium-jezyka-polskiego-dla-cudzoziemcow-ul/strefa-kandydata/our-courses, and continue the programme in the following academic year.
Foreign candidates, who can speak Polish at B2 level at least, and candidates with Polish citizenship take the exam with Polish candidates. All the details can be found on the Polish version of this website.

Tuition Fee

The course in Directing is a 5-year-long Master course run in Polish (there is no separate BA programme). Current total course price is 60,000 € (6,000 per semester paid before each semester starts).

The ENTRANCE EXAM FOR FOREIGNERS who do not speak Polish and are applying for the 2024/25 academic year will be held on June 28, 2024. The exam will be held on-line.


Required documents

  1. Application form (editable .pdf or .docx)
  2. High school graduation diploma, which must be legalized by the Polish Consul in applicant’s country of residence, or if your country is on the Hague Convention list http://www.hcch.net Apostille legalizing the diploma should be provided by a competent authority mentioned on the list marked by [12]. In either case the diploma and its legalization/apostille should be translated into Polish by a sworn translator.
  3. Certificate stating that the high school graduation diploma allows its holder to apply to all types of higher education institutions (including universities and academies) in the country where the diploma was issued in case the diploma does not state this). The certificate can be obtained from: education authorities in the country of the diploma issue for the countries on the Hague Convention list; the Polish Consul in the case of all other countries but Hague Convention; or alternately from a diplomatic post on the territory of Poland of the country in which the diploma was issued.
  4. Documents providing information regarding the course of secondary education leading to high school graduation diploma such as a list of subjects taught, number of tuition hours and grades obtained (.pdf).
  5. A degree in higher education if available.
  6. Passport main page copy.
  7. Curriculum vitae/resume.
  8. Proof of payment for the entrance exam.
Each candidate has to enclose samples of their artistic work in the form of an ARTISTIC WORK PORTFOLIO (see below)

To apply for the paid FILM AND TELEVISION DIRECTING studies (5-year-long Master’s Degree) the candidate must send all the required documents (see above) by May 31 to the address: j.wesolek@filmschool.lodz.pl.
After positive verification of documents the candidate will get the link to Teams platform to upload the artistic portfolio (see below) by June 18.

Artistic work portfolio

Artistic work portfolio - minimum requirements:
1. Samples of film work (fiction or documentary) – in its entirety or a fragment no longer than 10 minutes. It's advisable to upload the footage on platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo accessible till July 16.
2. Script outline for a fiction film: max. 10 typed pages of a treatment for a feature film with the development of one scene or max. 10 typed pages of a short fiction film script (.pdf or .docx).
3. Idea for a short documentary film up to 3 typed pages (.pdf or .docx).
4. Set of photographs composed horizontally in a minimum format of 13x18 cm on each of the following three subjects: LANDSCAPE, PORTRAIT, REPORTER’S OBSERVATION OF AN EVENT OR SITUATION (5-8 photos for each subject).
5. Candidate’s 1 to 3-minute-long oral self-presentation recorded in one shot/take without editing on the subject ME AND MY LIFE (who I am, what my background is, what my passions are, what I need from life), simultaneous recording of picture and sound (100%).

The candidates may enclose other samples of their artistic work such as films, photographs, art or literature. Films, photographs and scripts are preferred.

After submitting your application (May 31) the exam fee is non-refundable.

Exam

Only chosen candidaes will be invited to the exam.
The exam will be held on-line. It is going to be an interview discussing the candidate’s work supplied in the portfolio as well as their knowledge of culture and the modern world. 

Admission to the directing programme depends on the candidate's performance during the exam which tests their artistic potential and career predispositions, as well as the quality of their portfolio. 

The whole curriculum is in Polish. Candidates take the exam in English and if they pass they start a year of learning Polish. Again, if they pass the language exam and obtain B1, they can continue the studies.If the lecturers know other languages, they may use them, but it's not their obligation to communicate with students in a language other than Polish.

Accommodation

For the duration of the entrance exam (when it's held on the School premises), all foreign students taking the exam get free accommodation at the student hall of residence situated at 189/191, Piotrkowska Street.

How do I get to the dormitory?

From Łódź Kaliska train station get trams: 8, 10, 14 and get off in Piłsudskiego Street at Piotrkowska Street.

From Łódź Widzew train station get trams: 8, 10 and get off in Piłsudskiego Street at Piotrkowska Street.

From Łódź Lublinek airport take 55 bus and get off in Radwańska Street at Piotrkowska Street.

When you pass the entrance exam and become a student, you will shortly need to apply for the Polish residency permit.

Getting to school

Leon Schiller National Film, Television and Theatre School is situated at 61/63 Targowa St.in Lodz. You can get there from:

Łódź Kaliska Railway Station Tram 10 or 8 – get off at Piłsudskiego/Targowa stop.
Łódź Widzew Railway Station Tram 10 - get off at Piłsudskiego/Targowa stop.
Łódź Fabryczna Railway Station Tram 1 or 5 - get off at Piłsudskiego/Fabryczna stop.
Lodz Lublinek Airport It is possible to reach the School on 55 bus getting off in Tymienieckiego (corner with Kilinskiego Str.) or by taxi, which takes about 30 minutes and costs roughly 45 PLN.

Applying for student residency card

FOREIGN STUDENTS FROM NON-EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES

PLEASE REMEMBER TO START THE PROCESS OF ACQUIRING THE RESIDENCY PERMIT WITHIN THE VALIDITY PERIOD OF YOUR VISA.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

1. 2 copies of the residency permit application (to be obtained from the Passport Office)
2. 4 passport photos (size: 4,5x3,5cm, colour, left profile and ear exposed)
3. Passport (the original plus a copy of the page with the photo and a copy of the page with the visa)
4. Certificate of being a student at the Film School also confirming the tuition fee payment
5. Health Insurance Certificate (insurance to be purchased from NFZ (National Health Fund)
6. Bank account with sufficient funds for living expenses and the stay in Poland (635 PLN per month, for a period of 15 months), plus funds for the return ticket to the home country: 200 PLN (any neighbouring country), 500 PLN (any European country), 2,500 PLN (all non- European countries)

Initially, a decision concerning the residency permit will be issued (the decision charge – 340 PLN). Then, within a month, the residency card will be issued – charge 25 PLN.
