Required documents

  1. Application form.
  2. High school graduation diploma must be legalized by the Polish Consul in applicant’s country of residence, or if your country is on the Hague Convention list http://www.hcch.net Apostille legalizing the diploma should be provided by a competent authority mentioned on the list marked by [12]. In either case the diploma and its legalization/apostille should be translated into Polish by a sworn translator.
  3. Certificate stating that the high school graduation diploma allows its holder to apply to all types of higher education institutions (including universities and academies) in the country where the diploma was issued in case the diploma does not state this). The certificate can be obtained from: education authorities in the country of the diploma issue for the countries on the Hague Convention list; the Polish Consul in the case of all other countries but Hague Convention; or alternately from a diplomatic post on the territory of Poland of the country in which the diploma was issued.
  4. Documents providing information on the course of secondary education leading to a high school graduation diploma (such as the list of subjects taught, number of tuition hours and grades obtained)
  5. Curriculum vitae/resume
  6. Photocopy of passport main page
  7. One current photo of candidate (passport size photo)
  8. Proof of payment for the entrance exam.
  9. Language certificate of proficiency in Polish at least at C1 level.
  10. Type-written transcripts of the poem and prose exerpts which the candidate is going to recite during the exam. They must include the title, author and the last name of the candidate.

Exam

The exam is in Polish. To take part in it you need to know Polish at least at C1 level of fluency.

A candidate applying for the exam should possess the predisposition necessary to work in the profession: creative imagination, psychological sensitivity and endurance, proper pronunciation, good hearing, an adequate voice, sense of rhythm and above-average physical skills.  
A candidate should display a broad understanding of a variety of topics concerning culture and art. 

For the entrance exam a candidate must choose and prepare the following presentations: 

  1. Four poems: one from the Polish or European Renaissance from the period of Polish Romanticism; European Romanticism is also possible from the 20-year period between the 1st and 2nd World Wars, one from the period after 1945; with specific consideration to the last 10 years.  
  2. Two monologues – from classical literature written in verse: first monologue – by a Polish playwright, second monologue – a European or World Drama Classic 
  3. Four fragments of prose: two from classic Polish or world works; two from works of modern Polish or world prosePlease note: by ‘classics’ we mean works written before the Second World War, by ‘modern’ we mean works from that time to today. Knowledge of the entire body of literature from which the monologue or prose fragment is taken is required.  
  4. Must prepare two vocal works: a folk song sung a-capella,  and either a cabaret or a musical song.
Please note: musical accompaniment is suitable – for example, one’s own musical accompaniment, the accompaniment of another person, or background music on a CD.
Elimination 1
is a selective process that evaluates:

  1. Stage conditions
  2. Voice and sense of hearing (‘having an ear for music’)
  3. Pronunciation
  4. Interpretation of verses and prose.
Please note: texts prepared for presentation must be type-written with the given title of the work, author and the last name of the candidate – and must be added to the documents. Receiving positive scores in 1st elimination qualifies candidates for 2nd elimination.
Elimination 2
  1. Interpretation of: classical verse, monologue, classical and modern prose, vocal piece.
  2. Evaluation of one’s physical condition: Prepare a short (60 sec. maximum) rhythmic gymnastic arrangement set to music (bring your own cassette tape or CD) containing the following elements: forward somersault, backward somersault, bridge, Arabian balance.  Besides the routine set to music a candidate can demonstrate additional exercises they have prepared, Test of dance abilities, sense of rhythm and musical coordination. 
Competetive Final Exam
- using a point system

  1. Elementary acting tasks. Candidate receives a theme of a short scene: their task is to perform the scene in the given circumstances.
  2. Acting task in front of a camera
  3. Qualification conversation about the history of Polish theater and the problems in modern life in Poland and in the world
On the basis of points received by the candidate the Department Exam Commission makes a decision about the acceptance for the first year of the studies.  

Foreign  students from  non-european union countries
Please remember to start the process of acquiring the residency permit 45 days, at the latest, before the expiry of your present visa.

  3. Passport (the original plus two copies of the page with the photo and a copy of the page with the visa)
  4. Document/s certifying the registry and residency address (when renting accommodation-provide rental agreement plus certificate stating the landlord’s accommodation ownership)
  5. Certificate of being a student at the Film School also confirming the tuition fee payment
  6. Health Insurance Certificate (insurance to be purchased from NFZ (National Health Fund)
  7. Bank account with sufficient funds for living expenses and the stay in Poland (800 PLN per month), plus funds for the return ticket to the home country: 500 PLN (any European country), 2,500 PLN (all non- European countries)

Initially, a decision concerning the residency permit will be issued  (the decision charge – 340 PLN). Then, within a month, the residency card will be issued – charge 50 PLN.

Accommodation

For the duration of the entrance exam, all the foreign students taking the exam receive free accommodation at the student dormitory situated at 189/191, Piotrkowska Street.If you are interested in booking accommodation in the dormitory, please inform the secretary at the acting department in advance.

How do I get to the dormitory?

From Łódź Kaliska train station take trams: 8, 10, 14 and get off in Piłsudskiego Str. by Piotrkowska Str.

From Łódź Widzew train station take tram 10 and get off at Mickiewicza/Piotrkowska stop.

From Łódź Lublinek airport take the 55 bus and get off in Radwańska Street by Piotrkowska.

When you pass the entrance exam and become a student, you will shortly need to apply for the Polish residency permit.

Getting to school

Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre is situated at 61/63 Targowa St.in Lodz. You can get there from:

Tram 1 – from the station Łódź Chojny get off at Kilinskiego/Fabryczna stop.

Tram 10 or 8 – from the station Łódź Kaliska get  off at Piłsudskiego/Targowa stop.

Tram 10 - get off at Piłsudskiego/Targowa stop.

Tram 1 or 5 - get off at Piłsudskiego/Fabryczna stop.
Lodz Lublinek Airport
From  Łódź Lublinek airport it is possible to reach the school on 55 bus getting off in Tymienieckiego (corner with Kilinskiego St) or by taxi, which takes about 30 minutes and costs roughly 35-40 PLN.
