Łukasz Simlat, a guest of the 33rd Drama Schools’ Festival, after the screening of Otłowski’s film Jeziorak talks about acting as some sort of addiction he cannot and doesn’t want to free himself from
Łukasz Simlat, a Warsaw Theatre School graduate, was a prize winner at the Drama Schools’ Festival in 2000. – We all dreamt about theatre then, not so much about film. Great theatre actors such as Mariusz Benoit, Zbigniew Zapasiewicz, were my professors, no wonder I was into theatre. And shortly after graduation – three embarrassing conversations with theatre directors, one of them in a corridor, another one on the phone. I realized then I couldn’t possibly go through it for much longer, it was too humiliating. In the end it took me seven years to find a job in a theatre. Until now Łukasz Simlat has acted in the following theatres: Teatr Powszechny, Teatr Narodowy, Teatr Dramatyczny, Teatr Polonia and Teatr Studio in Warsaw. The actor talked about his career from graduation till now and his attitude to acting which he finds as some sort of addiction. – I’ve read Jerzy Stuhr’s book „Sercowa choroba”. I recommend it to all students of acting. I absolutely agree, to me acting is like a heart disease too, like an addiction, a drug. And there is no way you can free yourself from it. It’s good to meet other acting addicts in your artistic life because it’s always stimulating and fruitful.
The festival audience had a chance to see Łukasz Simlat in a film „Jeziorak” directed by a debut film-maker, Michał Otłowski. The screening was organized within the scheme „Drama Schools’ Festival winners on the big screen” at the 3D Wytwórnia Cinema in Lodz – Sometimes we say „it doesn’t matter in what, it matters who with”. „Jeziorak” is a film debut – when I make a decission about accepting a role I don’t mind taking a risk and trusting a film-maker freshly out of school, I throw myself in the deep end – and in this case the experiment turned out to be successful – said Łukasz Simlat. The actor has played in the following fiction films „Dom”, „Kochankowie z Marony”, „Wszyscy jesteśmy Chrystusami” „Zbliżenia”, he has also played many supporting roles as well as parts in series, lately in Xawery Żuławski’s „Krew z krwi”.
