Acting
From October 3 to 7, the Acting Department hosted Gael Doorneweerd-Perry, who conducted original workshops.
Second- and third-year acting students participated in workshops held as part of the project "Development of Acting Skills and Reflection on Stage-Teaching Practice.”
Gael Doorneweerd-Perry spoke about his working methods:
"My desire is to learn a thousand different ways of improvising and forge them into a style of my own. I travel the world sharing this discovered approach to acting—one that is somewhat boisterous and physical, yet also emotional and wild. People have been inventing stories ever since they learned to speak, making improvisation one of the oldest art forms in the world. Often used as a creative tool, a training method, or even a performance aid, it is also a magnificent tool for crafting complete, unscripted stories. The moment we immerse ourselves in the art of creating scenes, characters, and dialogue in the here and now, relatable, moving, and original stories emerge—stories that otherwise could never have come into existence or been presented.
"Beyond Script" is a workshop for actors who wish to bring a human dimension to their work—whether on stage or on screen, and regardless of whether it is based on a script."
Gael Doorneweerd-Perry is a teacher, improv actor, theatre creator, performer, educator, and artistic leader of the improv troupe Lolita. He worked as an actor from 2012 to 2020 and served as the director of the La Carpe Haute Improv Theatre in Strasbourg from 2012 to 2019. Since 2020, he has run the Flock Theatre – Improvised Theatre in Amsterdam, and since 2021, he has served as the artistic director of the IMPRO Amsterdam festival. Recognized as a leading figure in improvisational theatre, he has participated in festivals in cities such as Lausanne, Bydgoszcz, Tampere, Liège, Mons, Antwerp, Berlin, and Cairo. He has conducted workshops at theatre gatherings and festivals in cities including Riga, Istanbul, Antwerp, Dubai, The Hague, Bangalore, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Atlanta, Pokhara, Red Deer, Singapore, Brussels, New Delhi, Hobart, Bordeaux, Alexandroupoli, Phnom Penh, Lyon, Oslo, Mumbai, Lausanne, Stuttgart, Amsterdam, Athens, Sarasota, Sofia, Canberra, Barcelona, Canmore, Munich, Bucharest, Leipzig, Karlsruhe, and Vienna.
The workshop was held as part of the project "Development of Acting Skills and Reflection on Stage-Teaching Practice," co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund—a state special-purpose fund.
