The Leon Schiller National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź (PWSFTviT) publishes and makes available to all art schools in Poland the "Psychological First Aid Kit"—a concise and practical guide to supporting the mental health of those working in the creative field. The guide was developed as part of the "Values in the Creative Process" elective.
"First Aid Kit" was developed by:
Dr. Aleksandra Zienowicz-Wielebska, Pola Weiner, and Ewa Serwotka from the Centre for Performance Psychology
Renata Czarnkowska-Listoś and Anna Zdrojewska from Kobiety Filmu and FemFilmAcademy
"Psychological First Aid Kit" was developed by a team of psychologists and filmmakers as a response to the real challenges faced by students and filmmakers—pressure, work intensity, uncertainty, and the risk of mental overload. The publication aims not only to provide support in crisis situations but also to promote prevention and build long-term well-being.
This short, accessible, and practical guide helps you recognize the signs of overload and offers specific self-help strategies.
It includes:
- Tips for taking care of your mental health and personal development,
- Information on available forms of support (psychological and psychiatric),
- An overview of support specializations and situations in which they are worth using,
- A list of support telephone numbers and assistance institutions,
- A set of simple tools for immediate use in situations of stress and tension.
The authors of the publication emphasize that seeking psychological support is not a sign of weakness, but rather a manifestation of responsibility and attentiveness to one's own needs. The material is consistent with the university's broader efforts to foster a safe and supportive environment for creative work.
The "Psychological First Aid Kit" has been made available free of charge for all people working in creative industries - not only students, but also professional creators who need quick access to reliable support and proven tools in times of crisis.
The publication is part of a growing trend integrating psychology with artistic practice and audiovisual production, drawing attention to the importance of mental well-being as the foundation of the creative process.
"This publication comes to you on the first day of spring – a symbolic moment of renewal, mindfulness, and a new beginning. It's a time to pause, examine your own needs, and maintain balance – including in the area of mental health. We hope that the "Psychological First Aid Kit" will become a real support for all those in the creative sector during this time, accompanying them both in moments of challenge and in the process of building a more conscious and safe approach to creative work," write the authors of the publication.
