We invite you to the Open Workshop of Socially Good Culture for a series of open events. The first, on November 19th, will be dedicated to audio description.
We invite you to a series of events under the Zmysłownia project: Open Workshop of Socially Good Culture, prepared by the K.K. Baczyński Literary Association in collaboration with the Academic Design Centre. The series concludes the year-long project (workshops, seminars, study trips) led by Milena Rosiak, Bronka Nowicka, and Anna Ciarkowska.
The Senses Studio: Socially Good Culture Workshop project arose from the need to work on accessible language. After months of intellectual and creative ferment, we present the tangible results of our exploration: an Audio Library filled with audio descriptions of everyday objects and works of visual art, and a Film Library featuring animated shorts accompanied by descriptive narratives.
We invite you to the Open Workshop of Socially Good Culture, to an inclusive space. We extend this gesture to everyone: accessibility is not only about meeting the needs of people with disabilities, but also about working for everyone living in a culture of excess and distraction. This is what accessibility means to us: readiness for dialogue, an openness to different ways of experiencing the world, and a multitude of narratives. During the project, we sought forms of expression around which the broadest communities could gather. Audio description proved to be not only a form of mediation and communication but also a form of writing. Workshop participants saw it as an opportunity for expression and mindfulness (in and out of the text).
We continue to view our work as an experiment, a test that accepts all imperfections and stumbles. Hence the title of the studio – a studio as a place that points to the process, to the potential of work. Magdalena Ciura, the project's substantive consultant, was an invaluable guide on this journey; she is a rehabilitation specialist at the Special Educational and Care Centre for Blind Children named after the Sons of the Regiment in Owińska and an educator at the Aromatorium-Library of Fragrances. Thanks to her, two study trips to Owińska were possible. During the latter, students shared their opinions on the narratives that co-create the Audio Library and Film Library. During the listening sessions, we were attentive and focused on mutual understanding.
Now we are opening the Studio for you!
