Hundred years after the world premiere of "Woyzeck" Mariusz Grzegorzek, the rector of the Film School, directs the play at the Stary National Theatre in Cracow. The premiere on the 8th, February.

"Woyzeck" is the last, unfinished play written by a German playwright, Georg Büchner (1813-1837). It is loosely based on the true story of Johann Woyzeck, a soldier, who in 1821 in a fit of jealousy murdered a widow with whom he had been living. The play is often seen as “working class” tragedy introducing the beginnings of naturalism in literature. The play remained in a fragmentary state at the time of Büchner’s early death in 1837. "Woyzeck" was first published in 1879 in a heavily reworked version. It was not performed until 1913 at the Residenztheater in Munich. Since then it has become one of the most performed and influential plays in the world theatre repertory; in Poland since the WWII it has been staged for dozens of times in both the traditional repertoire theatres and the niche art theatres.
