The films of our graduates Małgorzata Szumowska’s “Body/Ciało” & Magnus von Horn’s “Intruz” are amongst 52 titles – candidates for European Academy Awards nominations.

Last year the greatest winner at the European Film Awards Gala was Paweł Pawlikowsi’s film “Ida” scoring five awards. This year, the award ceremony has been scheduled for 12th December and will take place in Berlin.

Małgorzata Szumowska’s film “Body” is the winner of the Silver Bear for Best Direction of this year’s Berlinale Festival, where it was screened in Main Competition competing with eighteen other films., amongst them, "Knight of Cups" by Terence Malick, "Queen of the Desert" by Werner Herzog, "Nobody Wants the Night" by Isabel Coixet and "Eisenstein in Guanajuato" by Peter Greenaway. The film "Body/Ciało", starring Janusz Gajos and Maja Ostaszewska, is based on an original screenplay by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert. Małgorzata Szumowska graduated from the Lodz Film School in 1998 and is now one of the most original Polish film directors.
“Intruz” is a story of a 17-year-old Swedish teenager who leaves a reformatory and is trying to start a new life. Some time before he had been sent to the reformatory because of aggression he could not control. Now he has to find inner strength which will let him confront the past.
Magnus von Horn was born in Göteborg, Sweden. He studied film direction at the Lodz Film School. His student documentary film "Radek" won Maciej Szumowski Prize at the Krakow Film Festival; a student film "Echo" won the following prizes.: Silver Lajkonik for the Best Short Fiction Film at the Krakow Film Festival and the Best Student Film at the International Film Schools’ Festival in Munich. The film was also screened at Sundance Independent Film Festival in 2010. Magnus von Horn’s diploma film "Without Snow" had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in 2011. The film won Silver Lajkonik Prize at the Krakow Film Festival and the Grand Prix in the Young Cinema Competition of the Gdynia Film Festival.
