An Oscar winner Jan A.P. Kaczmarek’s festival enterprise PGNiG Transatlantic will be held in Lodz in June, 2016. The Lodz Film School has become its partner.

Transatlantic Festival is an artistic event which combining film and music provides a forum for a discussion about the most important problems and challenges of the contemporary world. After five years of being organized in Poznan the festival is moving to Lodz.
– Our city which has been associated with film for decades needs a recognizable film festival. The Transatlantic Festival is expected to contribute to a wide recognition of Lodz as the Polish film centre. – said Hanna Zdanowska, the mayor of the city of Lodz.

- A transatlantic is a huge boat and since we are in Boat (Lodz) it was inevitable! – said Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, the Festival director and Oscar winner. With great pleasure I am looking forward to a new festival start in this city. It represents film history having great film institutions full of inspiring people with whom we will cooperate. It’s going to be a thrilling experience. Jan A.P. Kaczmarek is a famous film music composer who wrote music for over 50 full-length Polish and American films. In 2005, J.A.P Kaczmarek received the Academy Award for Best Original Score for Marc Forster’s „Finding Neverland”.

The festival organizer declares a close cooperation with Lodz culture institutions. The Lodz Film School has become one of the festival partners. – On behalf of the Film School and myself I guarantee a great deal of energy and involvement into the festival project. And it is not phantoms or mere banners we want here but a fully-fledged and dynamic festival. That is why we will be following closely everything that will be happening. – said prof. Mariusz Grzegorzek, Lodz Film School Rector – Initially, I treated the idea of moving the Transatlantic Festival to Lodz with some reserve. My concern that it might not work was over the moment I met Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, who is an extremely open person with a great sense of humour, ready for action. I feel Łódź is at the point of a great breakthrough. I am sceptical on one hand and full of good will on the other. It’s possible it’s the best time – added the Rector.

Over 150 films will be screened during the festival which for the first time will take place in Lodz. Access to most festival screenings will be free of charge. The films will be grouped into many sections from critically-acclaimed festival hits up to socially engaged documentaries. One of the festival attractions will be open air Bed Cinema where viewers will be able to watch films lying in four-poster beds equipped with a screen, projector, and a sound set. It will also be possible to talk to film-makers over a coffee („Coffee with…”) or take part in a master class (a few hour-long workshops for film & music specialists. The Festival will also comprise two music competitions: Instant Composition Contest (participants will compose music live to the image) and Film Music Competition (participants will compose music to films watched earlier).
