Prof. Krzysztof Hejke’s photography exhibition was opened in parliament last Thursday by the prominent Polish politician Prof. Władysław Bartoszewski, who died the following day.

The Exhibition "Polish traces: from the old Confines up to Siberia" consists of photographs and other materials – the evidence of Polish presence on former Polish eastern territories and Siberia at various periods of history accumulated by Krzysztof Hejke during many of his documentation trips.

Hejke looked for Polish traces in Siberia, in Irkutsk Oblast, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Tomsk Oblast, in Buryatia, Yakutia, on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Sakhalin and Usolye-Sibirskoye.

- I photographed places in Siberia, to which General Anders’ Army soldiers were re-sent from the territories of present Byelorussia and Kolyma gulags in 1950ties. I followed Siberian trails of Maurycy Beniowski, gen. Józef Kopeć, Wacław Sieroszewski, Bronisław Piłsudski, Benedykt Dybowski and many other Poles, those who happened to be there against their wish as well as those who settled there willingly. – writes Krzysztof Hejke.
