Dr. Weronika Kobylińska, lecturer in Photography Faculty was nominated for the J. Długosz Award for her book AVANT-GARDE FILM. POLISH PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE 20 YEARS OF THE INTERWAR PERIOD.

The Jan Długosz Award Competition is a unique initiative in Poland which distinguishes works that make a significant contribution to the development of world science and culture. The strategic goal of the project is to popularize a scientific and popular science book in the field of broadly understood humanities.

The book AVANT-GARDE FILM. POLISH PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE 20 YEARS OF THE INTERWAR PERIOD. (2021, Warsaw University Publishing House) was written as a result of studies on the history of Polish photography of the interwar period, which until now had been limited to a narrative about the strong polarization of two radically different camps. Previous studies have emphasized the clear discrepancy between pictorial Bulgak photography and the bold, radical avant-garde. One of the main goals of Dr. Kobylińska's book is to revise the once popular systematisation of phenomena, which today should be considered insufficient. The author provides a critical interpretation of the hitherto outline of the boundaries of Polish avant-garde photography and reconstructs information about marginalized or forgotten photographic practices.

The 25th Jubilee Gala of the Jan Długosz Award presentation will be held on October 27, 2022 at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre.

Congratulations and fingers crossed.
