The 5th European Drama Workshop "Stitching Europe" has started. From 23 to 28 September, the lecturers from the best international drama schools will work with the students of acting. This year, it is already the 5th edition of the European Drama Workshop. Each year the workshop develops with a larger number of lecturers, and thus - with greater opportunities for our students - for what? To learn about acting in its various aspects and methods. To get rid of the belief that only with words and a language we speak we can convey meanings. Apart from the obvious we still have the body, gestures, facial expressions and movement at our disposal which can replace words and give them new meanings.

Here are the lecturers of the 5th European Drama Workshop "Stitching Europe" and their workshops:

Oxana Smilkova Janáčková Akademie Múzických Umĕní – Brno, The Czech Republic

Her method is based on the idea of achieving truth in the role and on the stage, the student must first understand the truth about himself. He should incorporate himself in his acting, develop imagination and improvise in etudes. He should retain these memories, emotions and experiences, in order to bring them to life if the role requires it. In the early years of education it is very important to help students understand that the entire psychophysical mechanism must be involved in role creation. During the workshop Prof. Smilkova will use Chekhov, Brook and Grotowski's methods which are the basis of modern acting training. She will work with students on scenes from Chekhov's "Gull" and the poem "Demon" by Lermontov.

Michael Keller Hochschule für Schauspielkunst "Ernst Busch" – Berlin, Germany

Prof. Michael Keller is the Dean of Acting Department at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst named after Ernst Busch. He has been educating actors for 36 years. His method is based in particular on the theoretical and practical concept of Berthold Brecht and his "gesture theatre". Director's work and acting workshops led Michael Keller, among others to Lima, Oslo, Utrecht, London, Florence, Rabat, Mexico City, Barcelona and Brno. In 2015, he taught at the National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź. This year's workshop, based on improvisation and scenes from world literature, aims to familiarize its participants with the basic concepts of acting craft. These include: situation, event, action, turning point, subtext, relationship with a partner, gestus and attitude. Future actors will be encouraged to understand themselves as active participants in social processes and to use acting to make "interpersonal relationships comparable and noteworthy, and to use the opportunity of acting out these relationships in order to influence them." (B. Brecht). This year, he will work with students on the compilation texts from Homer’s "Ithaca" and “Idomeneus”.
