Only one month is left to send entries for the feature film screenplay competition organized by the Polish Film Institute (PISF).

The Polish Film Institute has announced a competition for the screenplay of a full-length feature film on any subject. Those eligible to enter are people who have completed screenwriting or directing studies. The deadline for submitting works is January 14, 2020.

The screenplay may have up to three authors and at least one of them should be a graduate of screenwriting or directing studies (minimum at the Bachelor level) and should be under 35 at the time of submitting the application.

All entries will be judged by a committee that includes screenwriters, writers, directors and producers. The committee will select ten winners, each of whom will receive an award of PLN 30,000 and will also compete for the award of the Polish Film Institute in the screenplay category for 2019.

The aim of the competition is to produce ready-made screenplays for feature films and thus to enliven the screenwriting market.

To participate in the competition, please send a screenplay with a minimum length of 80 A4 pages (Courier 12 font).

The screenplay with the required attachments (in a sealed envelope bearing the title: "Competition for a feature film screenplay") can be submitted in person at the PISF headquarters at 2, Kruczkowskiego Street in Warsaw - from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, during office hours (from 8.15 to 16.15) or send by post or a courier to:

In the case of submitting a screenplay with the required attachments via post or courier, the deadline is considered to be met if the abovementioned documents are delivered to the PISF headquarters by January 14, 2020.

Terms of participation in the competition:

The participant should be a person with full legal rights.
The screenplay must be written in Polish and must be the original work (adaptations are excluded).
The screenplay may have a maximum of three authors, at least one of whom has completed screenwriting or directing studies at Bachelor level.

Formal assessment of applications is to carried out by PISF within 14 days from the date of submission of the paper version of the application at the PISF office. A substantive assessment is entrusted to the commission appointed by the PISF Director. Awards are granted by the decision of the Director on the basis of the committee recommendation. The decision to award prizes in the competition will be made by March 31, 2020. The decision to award the Polish Film Institute Award in the "Film Screenplay" category will be announced together with the list of laureates of the Polish Film Institute Awards in other categories for 2019.

13, June, 2019 – competition announcement
to 14, January, 2020 – submission of screenplays together with the required attachments to the headquarters of the Polish Film Institute to 28, January, 2020 – verification of provided materials in formal terms
to 31, March, 2020 – assessment of competition works by a commission previously appointed by the PISF Director
to 30, April, 2020 – announcement of the list of laureates of the first stage of the competition.
