It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Prof. Jerzy Wójcik who has passed away at the age of 88.

We say goodbye to one of the first graduates of our School, a teacher of many generations of Polish cinematographers, a co-creator of the most outstanding Polish films of the 1950s and 1960s, who worked as DOP on the films by such directors as: Andrzej Wajda ("Ashes and Diamonds" 1958, "Samson" 1961), Jerzy Kawalerowicz ("Mother Joan of the Angels" 1961, "Pharaoh" 1965), Kazimierz Kutz ("Cross of Valor" 1959, "Nobody is Calling" 1960), and Jerzy Hoffman ("The Deluge" 1972).

During the December ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to him, Prof. Jerzy Wójcik spoke to us from the screen: "It's not about making films. The point is that what you do has deep meaning. You must make yourself remembered by the world. I hope that some of my films have become inscribed in the consciousness of the world, I hope"

Jerzy Wójcik was born in 1930 in Nowy Sącz.
He graduated from the Cinematography Department of the Lodz Film School in 1955.
In the years 1984-2009 he worked as a lecturer at our school.
He died last night (3-4, April, in Warsaw, at the age of 88.

The funeral mass and last farewell of Prof. Jerzy Wójcik will take place on 11 April (Thursday), at 12:00 hrs at Saint Christopher Church in Podkowa Leśna, at 7, Jana Pawła II Street.
