Saturday: Goya, Sunday: BAFTA. Two more Awards - Statues of the Spanish and British Film Academies were added to the list of awards for Paweł Pawlikowski’s "Ida".

It was an amazing weekend for the authors of the film "Ida". The long list of prizes for the film directed by Paweł Pawlikowski, with photography of a Lodz Film School graduate, Łukasz Żal, and a Lodz Film School graduate and lecturer, Ryszard Lenczewski, has been elongated by two more awards of the Spanish and British Academies. The Goya Awards, also called the Spanish Oscars, were announced on Saturday night in Madrid. Paweł Pawlikowski’s film won the Award in the Best European Film category. The following day the British Academy of Film and Television announced their national awards and among them the Best Foreign Language Film Award for “Ida”.

The film "Ida" was also nominated to BAFTA in the Best Cinematography category (nominees: Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski), however, the winner in this category was Emmanuel Lubezki, the director of photography of the film „Birdman”. The film „Ida” is one of the greatest successes in Polish cinema in the past years. The whole film world, as well as the authors of the film „Ida”, are now awaiting one more, the most prestigious contest, the American Film Academy Awards which will be announced on the night of 22 February. “Ida” has been nominated to the American Oscars in two categories: Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography, the latter being a great distinction for Ryszard Lenczewski and Łukasz Żal.
