The nominees for this year "Polityka” prestigious culture awards have been announced, amongst them Lodz Film School graduates, Jan Komasa and Bartosz Porczyk.
Jan Komasa, a Lodz Film School direction graduate, has been nominated for the Polityka Passport Prize in a film category. The nominee presentation reads: "His films tease, intrigue, initiate national discussions, which is the most important in a “film director - film viewer” relationship". The editorial staff of "Polityka" draw attention to Komasa's latest film „Miasto 44” by saying: „He's the youngest director in the history of Polish cinema who has made a film on such a big production scale, at the same time creating a new approach to a film production process. He spent many years getting ready to carry out the project. He employed the best professionals including special effects specialists from Hollywood. But most of all he succeeded in telling the tragic story of the Warsaw Uprising in modern aesthetics, which appeal to young viewers. So far nobody in the Polish cinema has shown a war story in such a way”.
In a theatre category , a Lodz Film School acting graduate, Bartosz Porczyk, has been nominated. "His acting can be described as very artistic and expressive. Bartosz Porczyk is also very musical hence the prizes won during the Actor Song Competition in 2006, his own record "Sprawca" and two monodramas accompanied by songs” - that's how the magazine editorial staff support their nominee choice. "Polityka" also enumerates Porczyk's roles in the following plays: Wokulski in Prus' "The Doll" directed by Wiktor Rubin, Desmoulins in Stanisława Przybyszewska's "Danton's Case", Karol Borowiecki in Reymont's "Promised Land" and Duke Patiomkin in Tadeusz Miciński's "Polish Termopile" - all directed by Jan Klata".
The Prizes, which were established in1993, have been awarded in the following six categories: film, literature, theatre, classical music, popular music and entertainment. The Prize winners will be announced on 13 January, 2015.
