An animated diploma film "Ziegenort" by Tomasz Popakul, a Lodz Film School animation student , wins a Special Prize at the Poitiers Film Festival.
In his animated film "Ziegenort" Tomasz Popakul performed three roles, that of a director, a screenwriter and an animator. Mariusz Wilczyński was an artistic supervisor of the film, and Piotr Szczepanowicz its producer. Dubbing for the characters - Young Fisherman: Piotr Loc Hoang Ngoc, Andrzej: Maciej Miszczak, Ola: Daria Polasik, Marysia: Natalia Brożyńska, Father: Sławomir Sulej. Post-production: NoLabel Animation & Video Post-production Studio ( www.nolabel.pl).
Apart from the Special Prize received at the Poitiers Film Festival Tomasz Popakul's film has won many other prizes among which there are: the Main Prize at the Cracow Film Festival 2013 "Silver Hobby-horse" (The jury verdict stated: "It's an artistically presented story of an adolescent, full of complexes, country boy"), the Best Animation Prize at the Wrocław New Horizons Festival and the Best Animation Prize at the Brooklyn Film Festival in New York.
Seemingly idyllic life of a fishing village is the background in which the drama of a Fishboy takes place. His struggle against the stigma of rejection refers both to interpersonal relationships as well as the protagonist himself. The film uses a combination of drawings with the elements of 3D animation. The animation uses colour in a moderate way. This is supposed to show the contrast between static life in a fishing village and a growing drama of Fishboy.
