"Saving from Oblivion" is an exhibition that stems from the experience of a father’s sudden death. The artist, Paulina Mroczkowska, invites you to her graduation exhibition on 28, October at 4 p.m.
"Time eliminates only the immediate feeling of loss (I do not cry)—that is all. As for everything else, however, nothing has changed."
Roland Barthes, Camera Lucida
Over the years, the artist returns to her grandparents' home, photographing and filming successive layers of time. These repeated visits cause meanings to constantly shift. What initially appears to be an ordinary fragment of everyday life becomes, as years pass, a trace of an inevitable fading away.
"Saving from Oblivion" is an exhibition that stems from the experience of a father’s sudden death. Its starting point is the question: how does the experience of loss alter one’s perspective on presence, home, memory, relationships, and one’s own identity?
Szklarnia 2 Gallery, Film School in Łódź, New Media Centre building, 1st floor
artistic supervision: Ewa Ciechanowska-Urbańska
FREE ADMISSION
The exhibition opening will take place on Wednesday, 28, October, at 4 p.m.; on that day, you will be able to meet the artist and her grandfather.
Paula Mroczkowska (1995) - visual artist / photographer
In her work, she engages with her own past, using personal experiences as a starting point to construct broader narratives and themes. The creative process is of central importance to her practice. She employs photography, film, and the book form, treating them as distinct ways of examining the same experience. She is particularly interested in the relationships between image, time, and memory.
