The book „Understanding the Female Protagonist” by Karolina Bogus, with content editing by Bronka Nowicka, has been published by the Lodz Film School Publishing House.

"Karolina Bogus’s book represents an original attempt to reconfigure the dominant storytelling model by incorporating a female narrative perspective. By combining psychological tools provided by Maureen Murdock with an analysis of extensive film material, the author constructs a unique guide for screenwriters—a manual that enables the inclusion of the full spectrum of human experience in cinematic works and transcends the patriarchal 'Hero’s Journey' framework rooted in Joseph Campbell’s mythic analyses," writes Tomasz Sieczkowski in his introduction to the book.

Karolina Bogus (b. 1998) is a screenwriter and director, and a graduate of the Lodz Film School. She is interested in stories exploring internal contradictions and the tension between the individual and societal expectations. Her creative and research work focuses on female protagonists, treating Maureen Murdock’s "heroine’s journey" framework as a key reference point for approaching emotional dramaturgy.

The book is available for purchase at the Lodz Film School’s online bookstore. ksiegarnia.filmschool.lodz.pl/strona-glowna/244-zrozumiec-bohaterke-schemat-narracyjny-opart...
