What makes something what it is? You can seek the answer at the exhibition which opening on 9, October. We invite you to the Szklarnia Gallery at 6 p.m. for the opening.

We invite you to the opening of the exhibition "What Is a Thing?", created to mark the Andrzej Wajda Year celebrations at the Lodz Film School.

WHAT IS A THING?
What makes something what it is? Does an object become itself only when we name it? Is its sense and meaning determined by its appearance, function, or material? And if we manage to define why something is what it is, when does it cease to be that thing? Does a table stop being a table if we cut off its legs? Does a horse remain a horse if no one has seen it?

The boundaries of identity—whether of objects or people—have long engaged philosophers, writers, and artists. Stanisław Lem also posed these questions in his short story "Do You Exist, Mr. Johns?", the themes of which Andrzej Wajda adapted for the screen in the film „Przekładaniec”.

The works presented in the exhibition evoke similar uncertainties. The forms appear familiar yet ambiguous; they undergo transformations, distortions, and shifts, exploring the limits of their own identities.

The following third-year photography students are exhibiting their work: Kacper Bijoś, Weronika Coghen, Natalia Dukin, Adam Rudolf Karpiński, Julia Lejawa, Kacper Trzeciak, Jan Suchorab.

Artistic supervision: Tomek Albin

The exhibition runs from 9 to 23, October.

Opening: 9, October (Thursday), 6 p.m.
Szklarnia I Gallery, New Media Centre Building, Lodz Film School
