Acting
Second-year students from the Acting Department participated in the workshop on a practical approach to theatrical monologues which ran from 28, September, to 1, October.
Franz Pätzold described the workshop:
"We view the monologue as an urgent conversation that never took place. The focus is on experimentation: we playfully test extremes, strip the text of sentimentality and personal psychology, and seek the craft-based tools which will allow us to bring the monologue to life in the performance space."
Franz Pätzold, a German stage and screen actor and graduate of the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, has experience working with both classical repertoire and socially and politically engaged projects. His professional background includes extensive work at theaters such as the Residenztheater in Munich and the Burgtheater in Vienna, performing in productions directed by Frank Castorf, Ulrich Rasche, and Oliver Frljić. Pätzold brings a perspective of meaningful, reflective, and socially engaged acting to the project, demonstrating to students how to shape a role responsibly and interpret a text within a social context.
The workshop was held as part of the project "Development of Acting Skills and Reflection on Stage-Teaching Practice," co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund—a state special-purpose fund.
