The rectors of the University of Lodz, Lodz Polytechnic, the Medical University, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Academy of Music, and the Lodz Film School jointly inaugurated the 2026/27 academic year.

On 1, October, 2026, the Jan Karski Łódź Academic Partnership—bringing together higher education institutions from Łódź—ceremonially launched the new academic year with a joint inauguration at the Łódź Philharmonic. The ceremony was hosted by Aleksandra Bęben.

The inauguration was attended by the rectors of Łódź’s higher education institutions: Prof. Elżbieta Aleksandrowicz (Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music), Prof. Przemysław Wachowski (Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts), Prof. Rafał Matera (University of Łódź), Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik (Lodz Polytechnic), Prof. Janusz Piekarski (Medical University of Lodz), and Prof. Milenia Fiedler (Łódź Film School).

The rectors presided over the matriculation of students and doctoral candidates, who took a solemn oath.

Matriculated students of our School: Zofia Ruszczyńska, Julian Araszewski, Maria Jarosińska, Wojciech Wójtowicz, Maria Oziembłowska, Hubert Chościński, Helena Bączyk, Kacper Staszewski, Krzysztof Małecki.

The speech was delivered by Milenia Fiedler, PhD, Rector of our School:
"Science and art spring from the same human need—the need to understand reality. Science strives for knowledge that can be verified, substantiated, and subjected to critical scrutiny. Art does not prove or explain in the same sense; it reaches layers of experience that do not always lend themselves to conceptualization. It gives form to our sense of time, memory, intimacy, and solitude. It generates knowledge that is sensory, emotional, and embodied. (…)

Science without imagination could merely organize what we already know. Art without rigor would be unable to give imagination a convincing form. Both flourish only when someone has the courage to venture into uncharted territory. (…)

"Returning to the idea of the Łódź Academic Partnership: we are a community of students, scholars, and artists who, in various ways, undertake the same commitment—to explore reality attentively, subject it to critical reflection, and take responsibility for ourselves and the world we co-create," said the Rector.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Łódź Eureka 2025 Awards were presented by Adam Pustelnik, Deputy Mayor of Łódź, and Prof. Antoni Różalski, Chairman of the Council for Higher Education and Science to the Mayor of Łódź:
