The full-length documentary debut by Kamila Serwicka, our cinematography student, will screen in the Critique Semaine section of the prestigious Locarno International Film Festival. Congratulations!
The international premiere of the film AND NOW SPRING is scheduled for Sunday, August 9th. The film's inclusion in the Locarno International Film Festival programme is a tremendous honour, and we congratulate Kamila Serwicka and the rest of the crew.
Kamila Serwicka, a cinematography student at our School, worked as the director, screenwriter, and cinematographer of the film. Other people associated with our School were also involved in making of "And Now Spring": Adrianna Rędzia, a production graduate, is the film's producer; Julia Oleksy and Jakub Darewski, both editing graduates, were in charge of editing; Joanna, an editing graduate, is the film's composer and sound designer; and Zofia Rodak, a production student, is the production manager. Kamila's film was made under artistic supervision of Wojciech Staroń, a cinematography lecturer. The film features excerpts from Kamila's school short film, "Przejście".
AND NOW SPRING
After eight years, Kamila returns to her family home with a camera. She wants to tell the story of her mother, Agnieszka, who never left her small town. Her life was divided between working behind the counter of a rural grocery store and raising three daughters. At the same time, for years, she silently grappled with an abusive marriage.
The director gradually reveals the story of the entire family, also focusing on her younger sisters, grandmother, and father. She takes viewers on a journey into the most intimate spaces, where long-standing silences break, and deeply hidden truths finally emerge. Over five years, an intimate, multi-generational portrait of five women emerges, who together decide to claim their right to happiness.
AND NOW SPRING is a story about courage and finding inner strength, showing that a story told aloud can become the beginning of change, even for those who find their own experiences within it.
