A radio play, "WESELE" (The Wedding), based on St. Wyspiański's drama directed by Tadeusz Kabicz, is being produced at a studio in Łódź. 14 students from our school are participating in the recording
Our students are tackling one of the most important plays in Polish literature. This is a significant challenge for them, which they are undertaking under the watchful eye of director Tadeusz Kabicz.
Fourteen students of the Acting Department are taking part in the production: Kinga Stachowiak, Anna Pentz, Kamila Tytło, Milena Zając, Alicja Wieniawa-Narkiewicz, Krzysztof Świłpa, Dominik Nikitorowicz, Jędrzej Matwijów, Kamil Kowalski, Mikołaj Janas, Szymon Andrzejewski, Helena Grabicka and Marcel Barra.
"It's a great challenge in this respect; to do it so that, without using body, facial expressions and what the viewer can usually see; you can still create a perception that would be associated with it," comments Julia Jaroszewska, a fourth-year student.
How did Radio Łódź's collaboration with the Acting Department begin?
"The proposal came from Jacek Grudzień, head of Radio Łódź," said Marcin Brzozowski, Vice-Dean of the Acting Department and the fourth-year tutor-supervisor. "Together, we developed a format and refined the idea for producing a radio play as an 'informal' diploma. We have theatre diplomas, we also offer film diplomas, but there hasn't been a radio diploma yet. This is the first such initiative in the country."
Graduation students received an announcement about the project, which they could apply for.
"I also invited Tadeusz Kabicz to join the project," the Vice-Dean added. "He has experience working in radio, is open-minded, young, and works at a fast pace, so I thought the "miracle" of bringing this idea to fruition within a month, with his directing skills, was possible."
The director proposed the script, and the choice is interesting because the WEDDING will be performed by a group of young people just starting their careers. Tadeusz prepared an adaptation, written for a specific number of applicants, and a rehearsal schedule was set. Radio Łódź provided the recording studio and handled post-production.
"Working in a recording studio isn't the main activity in the actor's training process," said Marcin Brzozowski. "Of course, we offer dubbing workshops and microphone training. However, creating a role in such a short time, while still maintaining the strict constraints of producing a radio play, is a completely different experience. Before the stage diploma, rehearsals take place over several months. During the production of a radio play, there are meetings, analyses, first and second readings, and then recording begins. This is a completely new experience for the students."
