Composer Witold Janiak was a guest speaker at a course in sound design. He met with students and spoke about the collaboration between sound engineers and composers.
The School's guest was Dr. Witold Janiak, a renowned pianist, Hammond player, composer, and arranger. He is a winner of the Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa Grand Prix, the Krokus Jazz Festival Grand Prix, and the Contemporary Music Competition in Krakow.
Our guest's lecture, "How Scales and Harmony Build Understanding Between Sound Designer and Composer," was focused on the role of musical language as a communication bridge in the process of creating a soundscape. The meeting demonstrated how knowledge of scales, harmonic functions, and tonal tensions allows both creators to more precisely express their artistic intentions and jointly shape the emotional dimension of a work. The lecture discussed basic and extended scale systems, their impact on mood, and the importance of harmonic context in building drama.
Particular emphasis was placed on the practical aspects of cooperation – how to describe the sound, dynamics and colour of music in a way that is understandable to both parties, avoiding misunderstandings and shortening the creative process.
NOTE!
ENROLMENT for the Audiovisual Sound Engineering programme (undergraduate studies) begins on April 1st – registration is available via the IRK system.
The Audiovisual Sound Engineering programme aims to educate students to become highly-qualified, professional sound engineers acquiring knowledge and skills in the fields of music and filmmaking, as well as the techniques and technologies necessary to work at every stage of filmmaking and other forms of audiovisual communication. During your studies, you will learn, among other things, how to record, edit, and create sounds; how to use sound and music to enhance the drama and emotional flow of an audiovisual message; what the film production process entails; and how to collaborate with other specialists throughout the production process.
Entrance exams are required for this programme – the deadline for submitting portfolios is May 11-24.
Musical education is not required at any stage of the enrolment process.
