We invite you to an exhibition of works by Jimena Zarauz-Piłacik, an animated film and special effects student. The opening will take place on 27th, February (Friday) at 6 p.m. at the MeMo Mediateka.

SEJSZA – a short history of personal waves
"In painting, as in life, it is difficult to be someone other than what one simply is by nature. It is difficult to escape from oneself or cut oneself off from your roots and that original, dense fascia which firmly binds us to the metaphysical core of the Earth and the meaning of our early familial and cultural conditioning and experiences. Therefore, when speaking about the exhibition currently on display at the MEMO Mediateka, it is impossible to avoid relating its aesthetic overall perspective to the multicultural content supported by two solid and immense pillars of personal experience that the artist has consistently gathered and collected over many years in Peru and Poland. Her strong and conscious presence on both sides of the globe spans her adolescence and maturation, casting a shadow of insignificance over formal creative strategies, a peculiar "safety umbrella" beneath which memories, nostalgias, longings, and dreams hide. This experience came to her quite naturally and somewhat unnoticed. She didn't particularly learn how to talk about it, but rather, day by day, step by step, she discovered her creative abilities. Painting, regardless of "where" and "when," has always been with her. Perhaps that is why her entire, enigmatic way of "thinking through images," built from fragments of shattered memories and imaginations, is so multi-layered and multi-leveled and so personal. Because it is, as it were, an extension of her existence. And precisely because of this, it eludes clear assessment and classification..."

JIMENA ZARAUZ-PIŁACIK
An artist with Polish-Peruvian roots, her work has been shaped by the intersection of two cultures. She spent her early childhood in Poland and her primary and secondary school years in Peru. This dual cultural heritage clearly influences her visual sensibility and the subject matter of her works. From an early age, she was interested in painting and drawing. Simultaneously, she developed an interest in film, which led her to return to Poland to study at the Leon Schiller National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź, where she is currently in her third year of studying animation and special effects.
