A graduate and long-time lecturer at the Cinematography Department of our School passed away on 6, February at the age of 94.

Zbigniew Karpowicz graduated from the Cinematography Department of the Lodz Film School in 1955. From 1955 to 1995, he worked full-time at the Documentary Film Studio in Warsaw, where he shot approximately 90 documentaries (including eight as director). For many years, he was a cameraman for the Polish Film Chronicle, winning awards at festivals in Cannes, Oberhausen, and San Francisco for his work, which covered approximately 600 subjects.

From 1969 to 1972, he lectured at the Cairo Higher Cinema Institute in Egypt. From 1972 until his retirement, Zbigniew Karpowicz lectured at the Cinematography Department of our School. In 1995, he received the academic title of Professor of Film Arts.

As a glider pilot, he focused on aviation, constructing technical devices which enabled and enhanced aerial photography. In 2005, he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

Zbigniew Karpowicz was a very important person at our School. We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones.
