We invite you to find out the new website of the international project FilmED.
We live in a world where we are not only surrounded by images and sound yet the dominant way of transferring knowledge is still through written and spoken words. What can we, as educators, do to respond to this shifting landscape?
The aim of the "FILMED – Laboratory for film education project. From discourse to practice" intended for film school lecturers is to create better, inclusive and innovative teaching programmes aimed at educating competent, critically thinking and responsible students who use audiovisual media in their work. We’ve been busy collaborating with HDK-Valand (Sweden) and Netherlands Film Academy (Netherlands) on an initiative called FilmED to see if we can find out.
Our project provides a group of teachers from our respective institutions the much-needed time, space and support needed to develop new embodied and hands-on teaching methods for film theory. Refreshing traditional art school models, FilmED aims to nurture a European hive-mind of educators, meeting up several times a year to talk and test their findings on each other. Eventually, our contributions will be made available to the wider field of film education.
But for now, we’re happy to announce that you can follow our journey. We set up the FilmED Editorial Channel to share our process and progress with you. On our channel, you can learn more about the project and discover fragments from these encounters as our collective mind thinks, plays and works together. Each month, we’ll release a bundle of new thoughts and perspectives for you to discover.
