The Filmpolski.pl website informs announces the discovery of the film SWIMMING LESSON.

In the Year of Andrzej Wajda, declared by the Senate of the Republic of Poland, the Master's filmography is being expanded with the film "SWIMMING LESSON," made 56 years ago and discovered by Filmpolski.pl staff. This three-minute film was based on a screenplay by Andrzej Wajda and Zdzisław Maklakiewicz, conceived by Maklakiewicz, and staring Marek Perepeczko. The cinematographer was Zygmunt Samosiuk, the production manager was Barbara Pec-Ślesicka, and the editor was Halina Prugar.

According to the website Filmpolski.pl: "Until a few weeks ago, we knew nothing about the film SWIMMING LESSON (1970). We managed to find a small mention of plans to make this film in "Ekran" magazine, but we were not sure whether the film had actually been shot and edited. Further archival research allowed us to recreate not only the full crew list, but also learn the details of its making.

Wajda directed SWIMMING LESSON based on an idea by Zdzisław Maklakiewicz. It's a short, less than three-minute-long, metaphorical story about a swimmer practicing his own style at a pool. A group swimming lesson led by a lifeguard is taking place nearby. Initially, the swimmer continues his own training, but after a while, he joins the organized group and adopts its style and rules.

It also turned out that the film, produced by the "Zespóły Filmowe" Film Production Company for Polish Television, exists in television archives. We hope that, in celebration of the Andrzej Wajda Year, the film will be shown in cinemas, on television, or on streaming services. We're keeping our fingers crossed for that!
