Film synopsis: It's dark. Terrible fear lurks everywhere. Please, God, let them not find us...
This is what Maja says about her film: "During the School's 75th anniversary celebrations, I became interested in the fates of the first women in my field. Among them, I was particularly moved by the story of Stefania Świeca – a student who never completed her studies. After the war, she tried to tell her story through film, but was expelled from the school… Her only student film, RAFAŁ Z LASU (RAFAŁ FROM THE FOREST), is an attempt to process the trauma of World War II.
The film was created from archival materials from the Film School, as well as personal materials. Together with editor Julia Oleksy, we pieced together Stefania's story—from the war to her emigration in 1950. Through found footage, I explore the boundary between memory and fiction, wondering what might constitute historical testimony today."
