We invite you to an exhibition by Bartłomiej Talaga, lecturer at the Faculty of Cinematography and Television Production. The opening is on 14th, November at 8 p.m.
The exhibition presents three parts of the project, based on different recording strategies:
* The Centre – a multi-layered composition of the city's downtown fabric, constructed directly on the gallery wall with used billboards, photographs, and Polaroids. The arrangement developed in a multi-stage process as a form of intuitive map, based on the resonance of relationships between emerging images.
* Peripheries – a series exploring the border zones between city and nature. In addition to photographs taken in visible light, infrared photosensitive materials were used, allowing the capture of structures invisible to direct perception.
* Ghetto – a work referring to the former Litzmannstadt Ghetto. It does not reconstruct historical events; it focuses on light, shadow, and emptiness as carriers of collective and individual memory. The work is contemplative in nature, focused on experiencing the presence of the absent. It is an invitation to mindfully endure and transcend one's own oppressive realms of existence.
"Scores of the City" develops an original concept of sound as a common ground for photography, sound art, and video art. Sound is a reflection on an alternative interpretation of creative visual activities. The project is based on an understanding of photography as the potential for listening to space. Individual images function as samples isolated from the flow of experience, while the overall arrangement evokes a continuous waveform—the passage of time, movement, and presence. As a result, photography becomes not only an image but also a tool for analyzing the sound of the city.
Exhibition curator: Kuba Szkudlarek
The project is implemented thanks to funds received as part of the artistic scholarship of the City of Łódź.
