The 35th National Film Studies Conference will be held at the Gniezno Archbishops' Castle and the Creative Work House in Uniejów from 16 to 19, October, 2025
The theme of the anniversary meeting is "A Journey into the Depths of Screens. Analysis and Interpretation of Audiovisual Content in School Practice."
The analysis and interpretation of audiovisual content constantly challenge teachers of various humanities subjects. This content is ubiquitous and shapes students' perceptions of reality, including those related to school knowledge. Some types of audiovisual content have also been included in the core curriculum. However, teachers' competencies often do not include the analysis and interpretation of not only film, but also video games, television programmes, and online content. The conference aims to address these gaps and demonstrate the applications of audiovisual content in school education. The conference is addressed to teachers and educators working with students at all levels of education.
The following topics will be addressed:
- goals and tools of analysis and interpretation,
- new and classic schools of interpretation,
- analysis and interpretation of interactive texts,
- television and its analysis,
- non-artistic films and their analysis: nature films, instructional films, educational films,
- analysis and interpretation of documentaries,
- historical contexts of film analysis and interpretation,
- film as a historical source,
- film texts and paratexts
The programme includes lectures and film studies, workshops, film screenings, a meeting with a special guest, and a recital by Jacek Wójcicki.
The following academics have confirmed their participation in the event: Prof. Piotr Zwierzchowski (UKW), Prof. Mikołaj Jazdon (Adam Mickiewicz University), Prof. Krzysztof Kozłowski (Adam Mickiewicz University), Prof. Piotr Witek (UMCS), Dr. Piotr Pławuszewski (Adam Mickiewicz University), Dr. Sławomir Kalwinek (PWSFTviT), Dr. Robert Birkholc (UW), and Dr. Kamil Jędrasiak (UŁ). The conference will be hosted by Prof. Piotr Sitarski (UŁ).
The conference will be held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Lodz Voivodeship Joanna Skrzydlewska and the Mayor of Uniejów Józef Kaczmarek.
The project is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The Lodz Voivodeship is the event's partner.
