Wojciech Smarzowski is one of the most important contemporary Polish directors. His films have been breaking box office records for years, winning praise from both audiences and film critics. He creates cinema with a distinctive style which leaves no one indifferent. The director of such films as "Wesele" (The Wedding) (2004), "Dom zły" (The Dark House) (2009), "Róża"(Rose) (2011), "Drogówka" (Traffic Department) (2012), "Wołyń" (Volhynia) (2016) and "Kler"(Clergy) (2018), for which he has received numerous top Polish awards, including those at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, the Eagles Award from the Polish Film Academy, and the “Polityka” Passport Awards. In 2014, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis. He is a member of the European Film Academy.
