Portuguese FEST - New Directors | New Films screens our films in competitions: fiction: THE DAM & DOG DAYS ARE OVER, animated THE CROOKED HEADS iand coproduction EMPTY SPACES.
The Fest - New Directors | New Films is held in Espinho, Portugal.
This annual event looks for freshness in cinema, emerging talents, different perspectives and originality in film narrative. In a wide range of the programme, presenting all styles, formats and genres, the event looks for trends which will penetrate professional cinema in the future.
The 21st edition of FEST runs from 21 to 29, June.
The NEXXT competition is dedicated to student films and productions created in academic centres. Our two fiction films will be presented in this competition:
* THE DAM directed by Giovanni Pierangelo
Film synopsis: Michał tries to start a new life and forget the one he has had so far, marked by the long-ago disappearance of his son. A sudden message from a mysterious witness disrupts his efforts and forces him to confront memories which turn out to be more difficult than he expected.
and
* DOG DAYS ARE OVER directed by Kinga Pudełek
Film synopsis: A morning visit from a neighbour and his unusual request draw the film's heroine into a journey through the memories of her lost relationship.
And the following animated films in the Silver Lynx Animation Selection Competition:
* THE CROOKED HEADS by Jakub Krzyszpin
Film synopsis: The smell of mine smoke envelops a forgotten Polish housing estate. The young man shaves his head, puts on a tracksuit, and confronts the shadow of his big brother and his past.
and
* EMPTY SPACES by Marta Koch, co-production of Animoon and the Lodz Film School
Film synopsis: The conversation during the therapy session pulls from memory events from five different places and times. Traumatic memories return in expressive and evocative images. Order slowly emerges from chaos. A story of loss which helps us discover our strength and brings hope.
All the films will premiere in Portugal.
