Archives, collages, samplers - all of this is included in the exhibition PHOTOSOPHICAL ACTIVITIES: SAMPLER which recalls the works of Łódź photographer A. Różycki. Opening: 18, June at 6 p.m.

Lodz Film School students brought to life the archival material of one of the most valued photographers from Łódź, Andrzej Różycki. The invited participants worked according to the artist's own method of work, who in his series "FotoAndrzejoZofia" entered into a personal and artistic dialogue with the photographer and friend Zofia Rydet, creating collages from his and her photographs. This gesture - reviving the memory of a deceased, dear person - was repeated by contemporary artists.

Andrzej Różycki's collages were "uncollaged": divided into their first parts, into individual layers, and then symbolically supplemented. In this way, the resulting works allow us to both see and understand the creative methods of Andrzej Różycki. All the individual perspectives of the authors created a unique "sample" - a review of the most important motifs of the artist's collages, representing his unique, philosophical way of thinking about photography.

The exhibition is a continuation of the activities of the Photosophical Archive established at the University of Lodz from the collections of works and private collections of Andrzej Różycki. The mission of the Archive is to promote the concept of Photosophy which Andrzej Różycki implemented from the 1960s until his death in 2021. Operating at the interface of various fields, the Photosophical Archive participates, among others, in the educational process, conducting classes for students, as well as cooperating with various centres and festivals in Poland. The exhibition was organized in cooperation between Fotofestiwal, the University of Lodz, the Lodz Film School, the Viva Archiva! Foundation and the exhibition "Historie Wspólnoty" (Community Stories), realized in the archives of the University of Lodz.

In addition, on 20, June, we invite you to a meeting accompanying the exhibition "Sampler, or how to create from archives?", in which Aleksandra Jarysz, Karol Hordziej, and Igor Omulecki will participate. The meeting will be hosted by Marcela Paniak and Miłosz Hermanowicz.

The organizers invite you to a discussion on the significance of photographic archives in contemporary creative activities. The meeting is addressed to people from various creative, curatorial, research, and archival fields, as well as to anyone interested in the topic of creative use of archives. We want to reflect together on the role of archival materials in the creative process, share questions and answers, and talk about our own ideas.
