URBAN LEGENDS, the art project co-created by our photography students, will be presented in the exhibition space Lodzkie House in Brussels, from 8th May.

We invite you on the exhibition URBAN LEGENDS, which can be viewed from 8th May, at 6 p.m., at the Lodzkie House, Square Marie Louise 2, 1000 Brussels.

URBAN LEGENDS is a project combining contemporary art, visual research and educational practice. It poses a question about how urban folklore, which is so elusive, ephemeral and merged with local urban mythology, can be transformed into the language of image, multimedia and narrative, subsequently incorporated into discourses on identity, education and aesthetics. The idea, developed by students and lecturers from the Film School in Lodz, Paweł Bownik and Szymon Kobusiński from Photography Course, is also an experiment in art education. It has evolved from the formula of a master workshop to a research and educational project. Now, it is becoming a tool for testing models of art education in Europe. It provides an opportunity not only to create images, but also to create a network of relationships between academic centres, cultural institutions and commercial partners, who jointly are establishing the ecosystem of support for young artists.

URBAN LEGENDS is a project based on the imaginative fantasies of the 2nd and 4th year Photography students at the Film School in Lodz. Their visual stories draw on the heritage of the twentieth-century avant-garde, eventually turning towards the aesthetics of horror films and their afterimages. The starting point for these stories is Lodz in 2024 - a city where inspiration comes from rumours, memes and fake news. All of this is linked by a common landscape - a perpetual ritual of renovation and construction works that forms the backdrop to the urban mythology.

The exhibition is open till 16th May.
