Student documentary film by J. Wenda is in the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Short Film Competition. In the same section there's also a film by our editing graduate, M Modzelewski entitled LIFT LADY

The 22nd edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity runs from 9 to 18 May in cinemas in Warszawa, Wrocław, Gdynia, Poznań, Katowice, Łódź and Bydgoszcz and from 20 May to 2 June online at mdag.pl

Seven cities, over 165,000 viewers in 2024, several hundred volunteers across the country - all these people, institutions and places make up the MDAG festival family. Thanks to their work and love for cinema, for two decades Millennium Docs Against Gravity has become the second largest documentary film festival in Europe, right after the IDFA festival in Amsterdam.

The slogan of this year's MDAG edition also refers to the sense of community and is "The whole world between us".

Film synopsis: This is a story about the everyday life of Mzia – a supervisor of a paid lift in a Brutalist-style apartment block at the Nutsubidze Plato housing estate in Tbilisi. The surrealism of the urban complex is mixed here with the grotesqueness of everyday life and the vices of the inhabitants, drawing a tragicomic image of contemporary Georgia. The introspective story of the lift operator, a former war sniper, reveals to the viewer a microcosm of neighbourly relations forgotten by the West.

Credits:
screenplay and direction: Marcin Modzelewski (editing graduate) cinematography: Jakub Urbański (cinematography graduate)
editing: Marcin Sołtysik (editing graduate)
executive producers: Anderegande Studio
production: Munk Studio
