The documentary film directed by Jakub Piątek, our graduate and lecturer at the Directing Department, won the International Emmy Award! The film's co-creators include many of our graduates.
The EMMY Awards of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, known as the “TV Oscars,” honour the best productions made outside the United States. The prestigious awards, which have been presented since 1973, are the equivalent of the Primetime Emmy Awards. The awards are intended to promote cultural diversity and recognize the achievements of international productions.
At this year's gala, which was held as every year in New York, the International Emmy Awards for Arts Programming statuette was received by Jakub Piątek, director of the film PIANOFORTE.
PIANOFORTE is a gripping story about participants of the legendary Chopin Competition who are entering adulthood. The film's protagonists are young people, aged 16 to 30, from all over the world. They have one thing in common - they have devoted themselves to playing the piano since childhood. Their struggles are a real emotional rollercoaster. They are entering adulthood, while simultaneously facing the enormous pressure of competition. For the first time in the history of the competition, the film crew managed to look behind the scenes of the National Philharmonic Hall to such an extent, to show the atmosphere of tension there. Jakub Piątek also accompanies the heroes and heroines in their everyday lives, presenting a multi-dimensional image of talented people with extraordinary personalities. The film was shot in China, Russia and Italy, among other places.
direction: Jakub Piątek (our directing graduate and lecturer) cinematography: Filip Drożdż (our cinematography graduate) additional cinematography: Miłosz Kasiura (our cinematography graduate); among the camera operators there are also our graduates: Janusz Szymański, Marek Kozakiewicz, Małgorzata Szyłak, Mateusz Kucharski
