On Sunday, we learned the verdict of the Authors Spotlight competition. The Main Prize was awarded to director Mohammed Almughanni for AN ORANGE FROM JAFFA, and a double prize to Janek Bujnowski.
The 15th Camera Action Festival concluded with the Closing Gala held at Monopolis in Łódź.
In the International Authors Spotlight Competition, (for which the film selection was presented in our previous news filmschool.lodz.pl/news), all juries selected films co-produced by Indeks Film Studio.
* The Main Jury consisting of Sandra Drzymalska, Piotr Guszkowski, Michał Piepiórka awarded the Main Prize in the category: Best “Live Action” student film to
AN ORANGE FROM JAFFA, dir. Mohammed Almughanni
Jury statement: for the masterful use of the short film form and the limited space in which the action is placed. This film keeps you in suspense, and at the same time manages to surprise you with its humour. Although the story is set in a specific context, touching on Israeli-Palestinian relations, its message resonates very universally. And this is because it focuses on the human being.
The film was produced by: Lumisenta Foundation (Patryk Sielecki), INDEKS Film Studio (Marcin Malatyński), Synecdoche (David Frenkel).
The film was made in cooperation with Gaza Films, War on Screen, Centre National de la Cinematographie, Arte France and Palestinian Cultural Fund.
* The Jury of the Film Studies Research Group of the University of Lodz, composed of: Jakub Dulny, Karolina Majka, Antonina Noińska, awarded the Prize for the student film:
DANCING IN THE CORNER dir. Jan Bujnowski (prod. Indeks Film Studio)
Jury statement: "Dancing in the Corner" finds a golden middle between the seriousness of the subject of post-communism and the grotesque form. It hides the difficult reality of the 80s behind a curtain of lightness and comedy, while delighting with a fresh approach to depicting the Polish mentality. It captivates with a visual narrative which is devoid of unnecessary martyrdom.
* The Youth Jury consisting of: Bartosz Ciechanowicz, Antonina Zwolińska, Zosia Żyłka awarded the Prize for the student film:
DANCING IN THE CORNER dir. Jan Bujnowski
Jury statement: For an incredibly bold, uncompromisingly honest approach to the past and relationships with loved ones, and a unique, unconventional and humorous form, showing that sometimes it takes little to say everything. For creativity and constant reminders with the film about the essence of memories, the role of caring for passions which connect us with another person, but above all - about nurturing your inner child.
