On 28, September, we invite you to Warsaw for a meeting with Katarzyna Bojarska devoted to the role of cultural memory accompanied by a curatorial tour of the Film School students' exhibition.
The event was organized in cooperation with photography graduates co-running the Picture Doc Foundation in Warsaw.
ARCHIVES AND THE CULTURE OF MEMORY
We will start the day at 11:00 a.m. with a breakfast and photography, during which there will be a meeting with Dr. Katarzyna Bojarska – a cultural studies scholar, researcher dealing with visual culture, contemporary art, cultural memory, trauma studies, affect studies with whom we will look more closely at the questions below.
About the meeting:
What is an archive today if on the one hand, it stops time being a testimony to history, and on the other hand, it itself succumbs to time? Today, in an increasingly immaterial, information-filled reality, are the methods we use to preserve memory durable at all? What will archives look like in the future and what role do they play in the culture of memory? Attempts to answer these questions, resulting from socio-cultural changes, are part of the ever-developing field of culture studies, as well as artistic studies. Exploring contemporary methods of commemorating the past is becoming an increasingly multidisciplinary area of memory research.
The meeting will be held as part of the closing of the exhibition TOMORROW WAS YESTERDAY – it will be hosted by Julia Bader, author of the work "(Re)constructions" and Dr. Marcela Paniak, curator of the exhibition.
We invite you to meet and talk over homemade cakes and coffee.
After the meeting at 3:00 p.m. there will be a curatorial tour in the presence of some of the authors of the works, in order to try and discuss these aspects from the perspective of Lodz Film School students and the curator who teaches "Archival Photography" at the school.
