The documentary film by our lecturer, Jakub Piątek, will compete for the International Emmy Awards! Congratulations on the nomination!
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences – the largest organization uniting leading figures in entertainment from all sectors of the television industry from over sixty countries has announced the nominations for its annual awards: International Emmy® Awards. Among the nominated films is the full-length documentary PIANOFORTE (filmpolski.pl), directed by Jakub Piątek and produced by Maciej Kubicki (Telemark). The film will compete for the award in the Arts Programming category. It is the first Polish documentary in history to be nominated for this prestigious award.
Jakub Piątek (filmpolski.pl) is a lecturer at the Film and Television Directing Department of our School. The cinematographer for the film is Filip Drożdż, a graduate of the Cinematography and Television Production Department of our school, Miłosz Kasiura, also a graduate of this Department, was in chargé of additional cinematography; among the camera operators there were also our graduates: Janusz Szymański, Marek Kozakiewicz, Małgorzata Szyłak and Mateusz Kucharski. PIANOFORTE is a gripping story about participants of the legendary Chopin Competition who are entering adulthood. The film's protagonists are young people, aged 16 to 30, from all over the world. They have one thing in common - they have devoted themselves to playing the piano since childhood. Their struggles are a real emotional rollercoaster. They are entering adulthood, while simultaneously facing the enormous pressure of competition. For the first time in the history of the competition, the film crew managed to look behind the scenes of the National Philharmonic Hall to such an extent, to show the atmosphere of tension there. Jakub Piątek also accompanies the heroes and heroines in their everyday lives, presenting a multi-dimensional image of talented people with extraordinary personalities. The film was shot in China, Russia and Italy, among other places.
The winners will be announced at the 52nd International Emmy® Awards in New York City on November 25, 2024.
