Szymon Ruczyński's animated film was screened in the Hiroshima Animation Season competition in Japan. The screenings were accompanied by a meeting with the director who participated in the festival.

Hiroshima Animation Season (part of Hiroshima Festival) is the only Academy Awards qualifying animation event in Japan. It takes place once every two years. 2634 films were submitted this year, with only 77 selected into the competition programme.

"There Are People in the Forest" is the only film from Poland in this year's selection. It was presented in the "Slice of Society" category of the main short film competition.

Szymon Ruczyński participated in screenings and meetings in Hiroshima. He reports his adventure in the land of the rising sun on the film's Facebook profile:

„The film met with a lot of interest from the audience, provoking them to ask about it and discuss it not only at the official Q&A, but also later in direct conversations. The viewers are curious not only about the artistich choices I made, but also about the context of the depicted situation. Sometimes they share with me their thoughts about the migration situation in Japan and surrounding countries. I'm very happy that no matter in which country I show the film, it always turns out to be a good starting point for discussing these subjects, which was one of my goals for creating this film.

The festival is also a great opportunity for guestes to exchange information about the reality of creating animation, studying at artistic schools and financing of film productions in our countries. I'm very happy to have heard a lot of nice words about the work of other Polish animation artists, many of them associated with the Lodz Film School. I hope that this interest in Polish animation will result in a lot of international artistic cooperations in the future. “

The promotion of the film abroad and submissions to festivals is handled by the KFF Sales & Promotion Agency, operating within the structures of the Krakow Film Foundation.

Szymon's presence at the Festival in Hiroshima was possible thank to the financial support by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the "Polish Culture in the World" programme - co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
