A film screening and discussion which promote the book and exhibition HOPE IS OF A DIFFERENT COLOR curated by Magda Lipska and prof. Monika Talarczyk, take place on 24, July, as part of New Horizons.
"We would like to draw your attention to a fascinating phenomenon unknown to the general public, i.e., student films by African filmmakers studying at the Lodz Film School, which include new wave and musical films by Mostafa Derkaoui," write the organizers of the New Horizons festival in Wrocław.
The IMAGES OF THE REVOLUTION programme includes a film screening (list below) and a discussion with the participation of our School's professor, Monika Talarczyk.
We invite you to New Horizons Cinema 4 on 24, July (Wednesday) at 18.45.
The event promotes the book and the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Łódź - HOPE IS OF A DIFFERENT COLOR. The editors of the book and the curators of the exhibition are Magda Lipska and Monika Talarczyk.
"Hope Is of a Different Color: From the Global South to the Łódź Film School" tells the story of a scholarship programme for the global South implemented in People's Poland during the Cold War.
The Film School in Łódź, which has belonged to CILECT (Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision / International Association of Film and Television Schools) since 1955, has educated filmmakers from Africa, South America and the Middle East, and at that time, they constituted one-third of its foreign students. The book sheds light on the experience and careers of directors and cinematographers studying in Łódź, while providing insight into the issues of race relations in Central and Eastern Europe.
The publication contains unpublished photographs from private and public archives as well as stills from student films.
