Marek Cieśliński's work is an important biographical monograph revealing for the first time the entire richness of Jerzy Bossak's creative life. The author showed substantiveness, respect for his hero, his scientific predecessors, and, finally, for documentary films. With great inventiveness, he described Bossak's creative genius, his social roots and dedication to the idea of creating cinema that develops people in the community.

The author carefully selects political and socio-cultural contexts that confirm Bossak's countless initiatives for the development of Polish film and the impact of film on society. On the one hand, he mythologizes the character, and on the other, he tries to approach with a distance but also with understanding his conformist statements (i.e. attempts to "fraternize" with the authorities) and decisions, the price of which was the opportunity to develop one's own career as a filmmaker in socialist Poland. Particularly important are the fragments in which Cieśliński's doubts and reflections on Bossak's attitudes appear that may disturb the imagined image of the filmmaker. The author discreetly provides the reader with quotes, references to the opinions of others and his own comments, which are, at least to some extent, intended to express understanding of Bossak's behaviour in ethically and morally ambiguous situations, but he does not deny historical facts.
