The film by Mariusz Rusiński, a directing student at our School, receives the Best Youth Documentary 13+ Award of the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA). Congratulations!
The Jury statement reads: "For a subtle and emotional family portrait during which all members of the family struggle to connect but always open old wounds, unwillingly hurting each other. The filmmaker delivers a universal story of love and disappointment via an outstanding camera work and a playful way of switching to the points of view of all protagonists".
The film was shot by our cinematography student, Mateusz Hernik, and edited by our graduate - Jakub Kopeć. In charge of the film production was our graduate, Aleksandra Wąsek, and Karolina Pastusiak, also our graduate, was the production coordinator.
The film was produced as part of the Munk Studio programme "First Documentary". Paweł Łoziński was the artistic supervisor of the film.
About the film:
Zuzia, an artistically gifted and very sensitive teenager, struggles with drug addiction. Her brother, the film's director, decides to take a closer look at the family to understand what could have led to this situation. This is not only a story about overcoming addiction, but also about the great influence that family relationships have on the specific decisions of its members. The director focuses the camera on his loved ones in the most intimate moments and tries to detect flashpoints and sources of conflicts and lack of mutual understanding.
