DANGER ZONE, a documentary film by Vita Maria Drygas, a PhD student from our Doctoral School, is in the IDFA International Competition. It will be the international premiere of the film.
International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam is held from 8 to 19, November.
This is the 36th edition of one of the world's largest festivals dedicated to documentary cinema.
DANGER ZONE is the latest documentary film directed by Vita Maria Drygas, a PhD student at the PWSFTviT Doctoral School. It is the only Polish film in the festiwal International Competition. In October this year, it was included in the Documentary Film Competition of the Warsaw Film Festival.
In the competitive world of tourism today, there are few experiences that are unattainable. “Danger Zone” delves into the world of war tourism, catering to a growing market for increasingly rare and extreme experiences. Tourists are promised actions on the front line, with real ammunition, real battles and real danger. War has become a luxury item, a commodity to be bought and sold, and tour operators are desperate to get into the developping business. This morally ambiguous tourism industry leads to a clash of two worlds: thrill-seeking tourists and people caught in the crossfire of conflict who do not have the luxury and privilege of choice. "Danger Zone" asks the question: what is left for tourists on reflection. Do they realize how lucky they are just because of the place where they were born? Do the inhabitants of conflict areas, not by their own choice, see in these tourists hope for a peaceful life? Or is it a purely one-sided interaction where no one wins and no one learns?
direction: Vita Maria Drygas
screenplay: Vita Maria Drygas, Kamil Niewiński
cinematography: Bartosz Bieniek (our cinematography graduate), Mateusz Wajda (our cinematography graduate)
editing: Milenia Fiedler (Rector of the Film School), Kamil Niewiński production: Drygas Film Production
