Our cinematography graduate, ŁUKASZ ŻAL, will receive the Toronto International Film Festival Variety Artisan Award during this edition of the festival.
The TIFF Variety Award recognizes the best achievements in technical professions related to film. Cinematographer Roger Deakins was its laureate in 2019.
Łukasz Żal will receive the award for his work on the British-Polish co-production "The Zone of Interest" directed by Jonathan Glazer.
Łukasz Żal is a graduate of the Cinematography and TV Production Department of the Lodz Film School where he made several student films. He has twice been nominated for an Oscar - for cinematography in Paweł Pawlikowski's films "Ida" and "Cold War". Two-time winner of the Golden Frog at the Camerimage Film Festival in Toruń - for cinematography in the films "Paparazzi" and "Ida". He collaborated on several international co-productions ("I'm Thinking of Ending Things" dir. Charlie Kaufman, "Dovlatov" dir. Alexiej German Jr., "Loving Vincent" dir. Hugh Welchman and Dorota Kobiela).
