The film directed by Justyna Łuczaj-Salej and produced by the INDEKS Film Studio is showing as part of the VISUAL FRONT section of the New Horizons festival.

"The Visual Front is an area of interpenetration of cinema and art. A space of experimentation: artists with a film form, and filmmakers with a conceptual narrative. It is a space saturated with dreams, revolutionary energy and uninhibited imagination. A place of unplanned meetings and sudden revelations. The front line is dynamic; every year running along new paths of looking at and thinking about the present and the films lead to unexpected, often peculiar directions." we read about the series on the website of the Wrocław Festival.

During the New Horizons festival, we invite you to the screenings of the film HORSE TAIL accompanied by the meetings with the filmmakers. The film which is Justyna Łuczaj-Salej's feature debut, is the latest production of the INDEKS Film Studio operating at the School.

The Horse Tail is a modern version of the Oedipus myth. The action of the film takes place in an undefined place (in a town at the foot of a cliff between a rubbish dump, barns and a forest), where people hide painful secrets. After years of absence, Diana returns to town with milk dripping from her breasts. She is depressed and has lapses in memory. Her return coincides with a crime committed in the nearby forest. Things get complicated when the main suspect Maj befriends ten-year-old Dagmara, the daughter of the victim. Their relationship is based on exceptional sensitivity and opposition to the corrupt world. When a horsetail wraps around them while they are playing in the river, Maj knows it's a bad sign.

Justyna Łuczaj is a painter, director, screenwriter, and producer born in 1975 in Krosno. She is a graduate of the Painting Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and the Directing Department at the National Film School in Łódź. She graduated with PhD at Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies at the Lodz Film School and is an assistant at the Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Rzeszów. She made her directorial debut in 2002 with the short film Waiting for Love and has since directed several other productions, including the award-winning T. Rickster (2007) and the historical documentary The Archive of Existing Cases in 2009.
