Free up some time on March 17th and 18th. See you at ILUZJON Cinema, Warsaw. We are bringing the best student films from the Lodz Film School for the16th Film Review again!

ŁODZIĄ PO WIŚLE returns to Warsaw after several years of absence. We're coming to screen the latest films of our students: fiction, documentary and animated as well as vnLab projects from the Visual Narrative Laboratory. Warsaw, WE'RE BACK at ILUZJON and it's not an ILLUSION! – says Krzysztof Brzezowski, Head of the Promotion Office, Spokesman of the Lodz Film School. We are happily getting ready for the encounter and the joy is even bigger because we are coming back in the jubilee year for the School which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2023! I hope you are also getting ready for it.

Here is our come back plan - two days’ repertoire of the ILUZJON Cinema will be packed with films which have already been awarded but also those which are just beginning their journey round the festival screens in Poland and abroad. For the whole two days we will make ourselves at home screening the films at the cinema and enjoying the company of the audience, media and film industry representatives. We are ready for discussion, applause and constructive criticism. The programme includes 5 film blocks, a total of nearly 500 minutes of film experiences of various types. You will see our films which have been presented at the most important international and Polish festivals: Cannes, Clermont-Ferrand, Poitiers, Oberhausen, Dok Leipzig, Annecy, Zagreb, Krakow FF, The Young and Film in Koszalin, Animator, New Horizons, Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, Warsaw FF, Camerimage and others.

To kick off the Review, we have scheduled a very good film! The review will be opened by the much appreciated WOMAN ON THE ROOF, dir. Anna Jadowska, our graduate and lecturer, and right after the screening we invite you to a meeting with the filmmakers. The moving story of sixty-year-old Mira, brilliantly portrayed by Dorota Pomykała, was acclaimed by critics at its premiere and awarded at the New York Tribeca Film Festival founded by Robert De Niro. The film also triumphed at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia (award for the leading female role), the Hanoi Festival and Camerimage.

There will also be something for the seekers of what is new in cinema. You will learn about the projects of the Visual Narrative Laboratory vnLab operating at the School which successfully studies the impact of the digital revolution on artistic practices, explores new technologies and virtual reality. The laboratory can be proud of experimental projects that have been successful internationally. We will show you the poetic film essay SUBTOTALS, dir. Mohammadreza Farzad, which had its premiere in the prestigious section of the Forum Expanded Berlinale. Then, it was presented at, among others, the Millennium Docs Against Gravity, Oberhausen, New Horizons and Melbourne festivals. Recently, it received a distinction and an award in Clermont-Ferrand. After the screening, there will be an opportunity to meet the producers, Kuba Mikurda and Dagna Kidoń.

You will also have the opportunity to personally experience VR immersion (headsets!) and watch the projects: SELF by Patryk Jordanowicz and Tadeusz Chudy and DEAD CITY by Krzysztof Grudziński, and then meet their creators.

We will also present the projects of the Interactive Narrative Studio vnLab: NEW SPIRIT by Laura Pawela, SCHOOL, WORLD by Ewa Jarosz and Iga Łapińska, and ZARASTANIE by the Tarta collective artistic group, with the participation of artists.
