"Long Live!" in punk style for prof. Robakowski

On 20th February the 75th birthday jubilee of prof. Józef Robakowski, a multimedia artist, was celebrated at the Lodz Film School, during which a punk band Moskwa performed.

Even the traditional „Long live” (100 years) tune was played in a punk style.

Janusz Zagrodzki, prof. Robakowski’s old friend from the time of the studies in Torun, ran the celebration jubilee. -. Prof. Janusz Tylman read a letter from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski, with the best wishes and congratulations: "your contribution to Polish culture is extensive" – said the Minister, who also expressed his appreciation for professor’s individual and original artistic style.  Prof. Robakowski has been connected with the Lodz Film School for the past four decades.

Prof. Robakowski was given a unique edition of Władysław Reymont "The Promised Land" by the vice mayor of Lodz, Agnieszka Nowak. Recorded wishes coming from a screen were given by Janusz Połom and Zbig Rybczynski, professor’s colleagues from the Film Form Workshop, Jarosław Suchan, Art Museum director, prof. Jerzy Matula and Jacek Michalak, the Art Atlas chairman. Among those who were present at the jubilee and could congratulate the profesor in person  were prof. Elżbieta Protakiewicz, the dean of Cinematography Dept., prof. Wanda Mirowska, Lech Lechowicz, Piotr Tomczyk, Janusz Kołodrubiec, Andrzej Różycki, Maria Morzuch, Lodz Art Museum curator, and many others.

The guests took many polaroid pictures of each other with prof. Robakowski’s portrait, watched his films and video art (such as "Manifest energetyczny", 2003, "Jabłko akustyczne", 1994, and "Testament Józefa”, 1992, and finally treated themselves to some cherry and chocolate birthday cake. 
Józef Robakowski (born on 20th Feb.,1939) is a multimedia artist, photographer, film-maker, instalation and video artist. The Lodz Film School professor, who runs his own gallery at the Lodz Manhattan. In 1970 he co-founded the Film Form Workshop, which was created as an innitiative of the Lodz Film School students and gradyates and functioned until1977. (Józef Robakowski, Wojciech Bruszewski, Ryszard Waśko, Paweł Kwiek, Zbigniew Rybczyński, Antoni Mikołajczyk, Tadeusz Junak, Andrzej Różycki, Kazimierz Bendkowski, Janusz Połom, Marek Koterski, and later also: Jan Freda, Andrzej Paruzel, Janusz Kołodrubiec, Janusz Szczerek and Tomasz Konart). The Workshop was a neo-vanguard group of filmmakers, painters, photographers, writers and musicians interested in producing art and not merely having an artistic profession. Its members were against the academic style of artistic education demanding seperation of art from commercialism. They favoured the breaking of artistic conventions and stereotypes, and crossing barriers. 
Józef Robakowski is the founder of the prize established in 2001 and called after Katarzyna Kobro, which is granted in recognition of a progressive attitude to art. So far its winners have been: Zbigniew Dłubak (2001), Gerhard Jurgen Blum Kwiatkowski (2002), Andrzej Dłuzniewski (2003), Krzysztof M. Bednarski (2004), Teresa Murak (2005), Krzysztof Wodiczko (2006), Jerzy Lewczyński (2007), Zbigniew Rybczyński (2008), Andrzej Lachowicz (2009); not awarded in 2010. Since 2011 the prize has been granted by the Lodz Museum of Art.; its recent winners being: Zygmunt Rytka (2011), Natalia LL (2012); Cezary Bodzianowski (2013).
